TAG-SCAN
Design Consultancy

Custom RFID hardware design and firmware engineering for automatic detection of tagged assets in industrial racks and clean rooms — without manual barcode scanning.

The project

From legacy barcode
to automatic RFID detection.

Our client required a custom TAG-SCAN hardware to integrate into their own system, enabling automatic detection of closed boxes placed on vertical racks in their clean room — without the need for manual barcode scanning (rackmon). Our engineers completely redesigned the existing hardware and firmware.

The TAG-SCAN system uses LF HDX RFID transponders operating in the low-frequency range. Passive transponders — no onboard battery — receive operating energy via the transceiver's RF magnetic field, then return the stored data by modulating the RF signal back to the reader.

Our methodology

Four phases.
Zero disruption to production.

01

Reverse engineering

Our engineers analyse the existing system and map all legacy protocol communication messages, identifying optimisation opportunities.

02

Circuit design

Design of the new circuit (hardware) and firmware to interface with the OLD system while maintaining full backward compatibility.

03

Prototyping & testing

Prototype production, functional testing in a simulated environment and field validation under real clean room operating conditions.

04

Deployment & optimisation

Integration of the TAG-SCAN system into the production facility with additional client workflow optimisations identified during deployment.
